David DeAngelo - Double Your Dating

Eben W. Pagan is one of the world's foremost experts in the art of seduction. But he didn't think too much of his own name – otherwise he wouldn't go by the more vanilla David DeAngelo. Interesting that he still chose an ethnic name – perhaps he knew people wouldn't be fooled by a more Anglo-sounding name, as David DeAngelo is dark-skinned with a Mediterranean look.

David DeAngelo is an attractive man, especially compared to some of the stars of the seduction community (Ross Jeffries, Neil Strauss, etc.), who are famously unattractive. Being unattractive in the world of seduction advice is a boon – why should guys take advice in seducing women from an otherwise attractive guy?

Part of David DeAngelo's magic is that he can convince so many men that his twists and alterations on Ross Jeffries' old techniques are worth plunking down cash for.

David DeAngelo - Cocky and Funny

His teachings aren't too far from the mainstream. Besides telling men to be "cocky and funny, in his "Double Your Dating" programs, David DeAngelo teaches that women are primarily attracted to men because of behavior while men are generally attracted to women's physical appearance. He has developed a number of "new" methods and techniques for seducing women and hopefully enhancing their attraction "regardless of the man's appearance."

According to his bio, David DeAngelo's methods are based on "human psychology" (as opposed to mineral psychology?) and "how women are genetically programmed (through evolution) to respond to men".

David DeAngelo's most popular information is meted out in a series of books, DVDs, concert-like appearances, and other venues with variations on the title and theme of "Doubling Your Dating". Thought by many to be the expert in seduction, David DeAngelo has secured a place for himself in the ever-growing market of male advice literature.

In his other life, as a real estate and development professional, David DeAngelo was known for expertise in direct marketing and sales production. You don't need me to tell you how this kind of business savvy can translate into success at the level of professional motivator and seduction expert. But DeAngelo often traverses the boundaries of his topic, offering commentary on the scientific nature of dating and "mating" as he refers to sexual activity. He is no scientist, holds no degree in any science nor any experience in the field, but has some strong beliefs about the evolution of dating.

David DeAngelo contends that most human behaviors are motivated by mating, and that mating in humans is no different than mating in other animals – there is a good and bad side for both participants. This is a huge gray area for science – I'm not sure DeAngelo has any numbers or research to back up his claims, and modern science hasn't gotten there yet either. But some of what David DeAngelo purports is not far from the mark.

He says most men lack a deep understanding of women – something women appreciate for its honesty and its insistence that women's opinions do matter. In other words, DeAngelo is a fan of women, outright, without having to constantly remind everyone the way his colleagues sometimes do. DeAngelo has been saying for years that women are not as hung up on looks as men are – something that social scientists are now saying as well. Many of his beliefs are benign and most hover at least at the plausible level. DeAngelo's dating is one of the more sensible pickup artists of the new generation of pick up artists.

David DeAngelo Communications

I've included below some "David DeAngelo communications" along with some thoughts on the ideas they represent:

"Attraction is not a choice."

This sounds plain enough – one cannot choose who one is attracted to. But this is one of the areas of DeAngelo's philosophy that leans more toward the thinking patterns of his forebears Jeffries and Mystery. DeAngelo is suggesting that a woman does not freely 'choose' who she is attracted to, but can be influenced by all sorts of outside sources. The key is to control those things which are in your control and aim them at the woman in such a way as to force her to be attracted to you. Therefore, she will have, literally, no choice.

"You cannot bore a woman into liking you."

This is a direct shot at some of the weaker facets of the Mystery Method. Mystery states that there are times when it is important to "distract" a woman on the path to seducing her. Mystery suggests that if all else fails, one can always fill space and time with words – that as long as she is listening or talking, she could still be yours. Here, David DeAngelo makes an argument in favor of stepping up your game, so to speak.

"I do not apologize for my desires as a man."

This echo of the masculinists of the 1970s is something not many people can argue with. No one is trying to tell you to run your life in conflict with who you are, in fact in my experience most women are happy for you to be "who you are". However, if part of your "desires as a man" is to control, manipulate, lie to, or berate a woman, then your definition of "man" could use a review.

"Don't be her girlfriend."

This is my girlfriend's favorite David DeAngelo quote – he means that the man should not waste time over-complimenting (or in some reader's eyes complimenting at all) or over-thinking your time with a woman. He redefines the nature of the male-female intimate relationship by suggesting that it is not a friendship at all. If a woman wants a friend, she has a hundred of them just a phone call away, and it is your place to be her lover and her strength, not her 'girlfriend'.

"You cannot convince a woman to like you."

Like "Attraction is not a choice", this sounds like a nice sentiment, but on closer inspection it reveals another shadowy area of DeAngelo's seduction method. In his mind, it is true – you cannot convince a woman to like you. Rather, your confidence in the fact, the actual fact that she does like you will show the woman her feelings – that the woman's feelings are but mirrors of your own posturing, and therefore she cannot be convinced, through word or action, but must only reflect your own intentions.

David DeAngelo runs a successful operation, judging by his continual release of new Double Your Dating DVDs and other David DeAngelo DVDs. His niche in the seduction community, which balances misogyny and equality, has been filled by a guy born with a ridiculous name. Students of David DeAngelo, pickup artists looking for a guru, have someone to look up to who is not completely interested in the degradation of women.
