How to Create a Perfect Date

How to Create a Perfect Dating Experience

Ah, the elusive “perfect date”. If you want to know how to put together a top-notch dating experience, the guy or girl you’re seeing must be pretty special.

What is a date, anyway? The word has many meanings. When I was a teenager my mother and I would sometimes meet for lunch during school hours just to find some time to talk together. My mom lovingly referred to these meetings as “dates”. At the other extreme is the “hookup date”–a date in name only, this kind of dating usually involves very little activity outside of the bedroom.

If you want to create a perfect romantic date all you have to do is be in total control. Plan this date right, control all the elements surrounding the date, and your crush will remember this special night for a long time to come.

What Makes a Perfect Date

A date can be great without being perfect. A date can also be perfect without much planning. If you’re trying to manufacture the world’s greatest date, be prepared for some let down.

Start planning the perfect date well into the future. To organize the ultimate dating experience, you need to work on three factors.

  1. Where–What location or locations will this date involve?
  2. When–What night and how long will the date last?
  3. What–What is your ideal outcome from the date?

Picking a location is crucial. If you know the guy or girl you’ll be asking out loves a particular ethnic food or has a coffee addiction your starting task is simple. My advice? Start the date out with a little something to eat or drink. Food and beverages are the great equalizer–everyone loves some sort of food or drink. Know a special hole in the wall coffee shop with a great jukebox? That’s a perfect launching pad for your perfect date.

Once you’ve got a starting line, decide where you want the date to end. Is this “perfect date” with a person who is comfortable sleeping with you, or will the night end on his or her doorstep with a kiss? Knowing where the date ends will help you pick your “middle destination” (after food, before the end of the date) and will help you decide how long the date will last.

Now that you’ve figured out a starting spot and an ending time and location, it is easy enough to figure out your desired outcome.

Picking the Perfect Middle Destination

Between food and drinks and the endgame (goodnight kiss? staying over?) there should be a decent amount of time–enough to create some chemistry and plenty of time to wow your date. This middle stop of the perfect date could be the dealbreaker or the perfect finishing touch.

If you and your date are active types, take him or her ice skating, or on a romantic walk in a beautiful neighborhood. If you really want to create a memorable night, you can hide a card or a small gift somewhere on your journey and have your date “accidentally find” the gift. The possibilities for the middle part of the date are endless.

A perfect date doesn’t have to mean roses and a violin playing under a girl’s window. It can be something small and meaningful you cook up to remind your date what a wonderful time she had. If you control the elements, you control the date.
