Project Hollywood

What Was Project Hollywood?

Project Hollywood was a house lived in by many of the pickup artists of Los Angeles in the days when Neil Strauss was collecting material for his PUA book, The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists.

This house, found near the bar scene on the Sunset Strip, was originally meant as a great pad for a handful of guys intent on picking up women in L.A. Neil Strauss wanted to learn the secrets of seduction with men like Method, but he ended up writing a book on the subject and became a seduction art instructor himself. But the house he lived in during this time became a place of legend, as friends and associates, including Courtney Love, spent time living there, or at least crashing there.

Eventually, Project Hollywood became the meeting place, according to Style himself, for the entire pickup artist community of LA. In a bit of an exaggeration, he claims 100 PUA’s eventually lived there. You had a guy living in one closet, another guy living in a tent in the backyard, and one room (“The Pillow Pit”) full of about 200 pillows.

In time, guys who had heard about the seduction community in Los Angeles would make a pilgrimage to Project Hollywood and spend time living there. As you can imagine in a place with that many guys, the place kind of became rank. Neil Strauss says you didn’t want to touch the Pillow Pit, while you probably didn’t want to spend time in the outdoor hot tub, since you had no idea what had gone on there.

Women stopped coming around, because they would enter a place with dozens of guys dressed funny and staring at them. Like any good idea plagued with over-saturation, there was too much of a good thing, and Project Hollywood became more of a liability than an asset in picking up girls. But by that time, it had become a legend.

What Is the Project Hollywood Formula?

Project Hollywood is a 3-day seduction workshop organized by Mystery, author of the Mystery Method pickup artist book, star of the VH1 reality tv series The Pick-Up Artist, and key character in Neil Strauss’s book on seducing women and the PUA community, The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists.

The Project Hollywood PUA workshop is held in Los Angeles, involves visits with David Deangelo and Style (Neil Strauss), and even a trip to the Playboy Mansion. So Project Hollywood lives on, at least in some form.
