If you’ve been reading about Mystery, Neil Strauss or the Mystery Method, you might have come across the term “Mystery Method A1″ and wondered what the heck that is. So let me give you a general overview of the term’s meaning, and what it means to your pickup artist approach.
“Approach” is the right word, because that’s what A1 is in the Mystery Method. It’s your approach to women. There are actually three phases in the Mystery Method, and each phase is divided into three parts. The phases are the Approach Phase, the Comfort Phase, and the Seduction Phase.
In the Approach Phase, there is A1 (approach), A2 (Female-to-Male Interest), and A3 (Male-to-Female Interest). In the comfort phase, there’s C1 (Building Rapport), C2 (Building Emotional/Physical Connection), and C3 (Intimacy). In the Seduction Phase, there is S1 (Foreplay), S2 (LMR), and S3 (Sex!).

We’ll talk about all 9 phases of the Mystery Method. For today, let’s talk about A1, the approach.
Create mutual attraction between you and a woman. Use an opener to start a conversation with a group or individual. There are a number of rules or steps in this sub-phase of the program, so take note of the following.
Peacocking is where you wear some kind of flashy or outrageous clothing to attract women, much like male peacocks have brightly-colored feather for the same purpose. The idea is you stand out from the crowd of men. Peacocking also shows confidence, because only a man who “knows himself” or is confident in himself is going to wear something so outlandish. You are making yourself the center of attention.
The Three-Second Rule stand that you approach the target or the set of friends she’s engaged with within three second of entering the room or venue. Once again, this shows purpose and easy confidence. No hesitation means you’re a man with a plan and with no fear.
The Neg is an ambiguous backhanded or negative comment delivered to the target of your notice, an accidental insult delivered seemingly without notice, but as part of a supposed compliment. The idea isn’t to be insulting, but to show you aren’t interested in the woman. All the other men she’s talked to tonight are complimentary in fawning over her, so you’ll stand out if you’re the guy who gives a compliment with slightly negative undertones. This leaves her wondering why you aren’t attracted to her, or why your attraction isn’t complete. Once again, subtlety and finesse are important, not abrasiveness. The classic example is: “Those are nice nails. Are they real or fake?”
The Opener is set material used to break the ice and start a conversation. There are a number of openers for a variety of environment, but it gets you into a give-and-take with her, allowing you an opening to be funny, neg, and otherwise be “yourself”.
The False Time Constraint is literally that you have somewhere else to be, so you can only talk for a minute. This usually involves meeting friends somewhere else in the place. Once again, the idea is to show your presence is wanted somewhere else, that you’re in demand and, most importantly, that you aren’t stressing about being near them or needing to be in her company.
Reinforcing the false time constraint is Body Language, where you rock your body (subtly), creating the impression you want to leave the conversation.
These six steps constitute the A1 of the Approach Phase. You get noticed, create an impression, then create the double-impression that you could care less what she thinks. If done right, the synergy of all A1 rules starts the process of attraction.
That’s the Mystery Method A1.
